Election expenses

In relation to the Dáil general election, 12 of the 24 groups or individuals listed in Part 3 of this report contacted the Standards Commission following publication of the information notice in the newspapers relating to election spending by groups or individuals other than candidates and political parties. One group had made contact prior to the publication of the notice. The remainder were either brought to the attention of the Standards Commission by interested persons or their activities were reported in the media.

As already stated, it is possible that other individuals and groups were incurring expenditure at the Dáil general election and should have registered with the Standards Commission. Had they done so, they would have been required to furnish an Election Expenses Statement.

The Standards Commission is currently processing the Election Expenses Statements received from third parties (and from election agents of candidates and national agents of political parties) and it expects to be in a position to furnish a report on election expenses in the near future.
