26/03/03 - Report on involvement by individuals and groups in the referenda on abortion and the Nice Treaty and the Dáil general election
Background
Polling at the Nice Treaty referendum took place on 19 October 2002. A group or individual was required to register with the Standards Commission if a donation for political purposes (which included campaigning in relation to the Nice Treaty referendum), exceeding in value €126.97, was received. A public notice, which provided information on the obligations attaching to third parties, was published by the Standards Commission in the daily and Sunday newspapers on 13 and 15 September 2002, respectively. An explanatory note outlining the relevant provisions of the legislation was published on the website of the Standards Commission.
