21/06/07 - Report on Exchequer Funding received by Political Parties for 2006
Part 1 - Introduction
Sections 16 to 20 of the Electoral Act, 1997 ("the Act") provide for the payment of Exchequer funding to qualified political parties. These provisions were amended by the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2001. In this report, a reference to a section of the Act should be read as including any amendment to that section.
This report concerns the Statements of Expenditure of Exchequer Funding/Public Auditors' Reports, in respect of 2006, which were furnished to the Standards in Public Office Commission ("the Standards Commission") by qualified political parties, pursuant to section 20 of the Act.
Section 4(1) of the Act requires the Standards Commission to consider every such statement furnished to it and, where it considers it appropriate to do so, to furnish a report in writing to the Chairman of Dáil Éireann (Ceann Comhairle) on any matter arising.
