Recommendations for change

In its 2006 Annual Report, the Standards Commission summarised its recommendations for changes to ethics and electoral legislation. These proposals, along with additional recommendations arising from its report on the Dáil general election 2007, are set out again in this chapter, along with updates on any progress which may have taken place in the meantime. As the Standards Commission stated in the 2006 report, the making of these recommendations does not imply criticism of the existing legislation, but rather is a constructive and positive approach towards improving the ethics and electoral regimes.
