Press Release re report to Ceann Comhairle concerning a Donation Statement furnished by, Mr Patrick O'Meara, an individual donor

The Standards in Public Office Commission has today furnished a report to the Ceann Comhairle concerning donations disclosed by Mr Patrick O'Meara, an individual donor. Mr O'Meara was required to complete a Donation Statement in respect of donations made by him during 2007.

Most of the donations disclosed by Mr O'Meara were made to branches of Fianna Fáil and to individual members of Fianna Fáil. Some of the donations were made to persons who were themselves required to furnish a Donation Statement to the Standards Commission. In some cases, a donation disclosed by Mr O'Meara and which exceeded the disclosure threshold of €634.87 was not disclosed by the recipients. In these cases, it was necessary for the Standards Commission to make enquiries with the persons concerned as to why the donations had not been disclosed. This report also details the enquiries made by the Standards Commission in this regard.

The report will be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas and will be published on the Standards Commission's website.
