Investigation Hearing by the Standards in Public Office Commission
Date Released: 09.02.2007
The Standards Commission has decided to initiate a formal investigation under the Ethics in Public Office Acts 1995 and 2001 into alleged contraventions of The Ethical Framework for the Local Government Service (Part 15 of the Local Government Act 2001) and the Ethics Acts by Councillor Patrick O'Donoghue and Councillor Sheila Casey, Killarney Town Council. This decision was made following the consideration by the Commission of the Report of the Inquiry Officer appointed by the Commission to carry out a preliminary inquiry into the complaint received by the Commission in respect of these Councillors.
The Standards Commission plans to hold a public hearing for the purposes of the investigation at its offices in 18 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2 at 10.30 a.m. on Monday 26 March 2007. Notices alerting the public to the hearing will be placed in the national press closer to the hearing date.
The Standards Commission will be making no further statement on the matter at this time.
