K. Consequences of overspending by an election agent

2.47     There are a number of consequences arising from an overspend by an election agent at the election, as follows:

1. it is a criminal offence, punishable by a fine of up to €1,269.74;
2. a person can petition the High Court to set aside the result of the election;
3. the overspend is deducted from any reimbursement of election expenses which may be due to the candidate.
