Disclosing Interests

Under the Ethics Acts, Members of the Houses of the Oireachtas are required each year to furnish a statement of their registrable interests to the Standards Commission. The Clerks of Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann draw up forms which are issued to Members in early January for this purpose.  Statements of registrable interests furnished by Members are forwarded by the Standards Commission to the Clerk of Dáil Éireann or Seanad Éireann, as appropriate. The statements are entered in a register established by each Clerk which is subsequently laid before Dáil Éireann or Seanad Éireann, as appropriate.

Ministerial special advisers, Members of Boards of State Bodies and occupiers of designated positions in the civil and wider public service are required to furnish annually a statement of any registrable interests and those of a spouse or child (or a child of a spouse) which could materially influence them in, or in relation to, the performance of their functions.  Office Holders are required to furnish a statement of any additional interests (i.e. of a spouse, a child or a child of a spouse) which could materially influence them in or in relation to the performance of their functions.  A nil statement is requested if there are no such interests to disclose.  The forms for this purpose are produced by the Department of Finance.
