John Buckley, Comptroller and Auditor General

John Buckley was appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General in May 2008. He was born in Kildare and received his education at his local national school in Ardclough and subsequently in Cork from the Presentation Brothers. He completed his Leaving Certificate at Naas CBS. He is an accountant and a barrister.

As Comptroller and Auditor General he is responsible for providing opinions on the accuracy of some 360 public accounts and reporting on whether money allocated by Dáil Éireann has been spent for the purposes intended and used to good effect.
